Freshening Up Your Bedding Without the Wash

 


Who doesn’t enjoy the feeling of new and fresh bedding? The crisp and attentive feeling is delightful and comforting. Though in reality, washing your sheets, pillowcases, or duvet covers is not the most feasible. Sometimes we find our washing machines full, are short on time, or simply want to feel fresh in-between laundry days. Aside from that, the good news is, even if you do not want to do the laundry, there are plenty of ways to freshen your bedding without washing it.

By following some simple and innovative laundry hacks, you can keep your bedding and bedroom feeling fresh, looking clean, and smelling wonderful. You do not have to put in too much effort or do constant washing.

1. Shake Your Bedding and Pillows

Sometimes the most effective solutions are the most simple ones. Make it a habit to remove your duvet and pillow covers and shake them. Do this when you are about to get your bed ready, and this will keep your bedding not only looking clean but also smelling fresh. Giving your bed a good shake also helps remove crumbs and dirt in bedding and helps dirty fibers breathe. Keeping your bedding fresh makes your bed feel more inviting to get into. Make it a habit to shake pillows and sheets in the morning while preparing your bed, and your bed will not only stay clean but will feel plump too.

2. Let It Air Out

Nothing beats fresh air when it comes to removing smells and moisture. Each morning, pull back your blanket or duvet, and allow your bedding to air out for 20 to 30 minutes. Better yet, if you're able to, hang your bedding outside for 1 to 2 hours on a dry, breezy day. Sunlight and fresh air work wonders to refresh and deodorize your fabric.

3. Use a Fabric Freshening Spray

The bedding can be brought back to life with a quick spritz of freshener. Try to find sprays made for upholstery and fabrics, as they will be safer and contain natural, non-toxic ingredients. A light misting over the bedding will provide an instant boost, and it can be made at home by mixing water, white vinegar, and a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus.



4. Sprinkle Baking Soda

Baking soda can help with the natural deodorization of the fabrics. It can be very effective when lightly sprinkled on the sheets, mattress, or duvet. Let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes and then vacuum it up with a handheld vacuum or the upholstery attachment of your vacuum. In addition to removing smells, this also gets rid of dust and allergens.

5. Pillows Should Be Fluffed and Rotated

Pillows can start to smell and be dusty and moist. Fluffing pillows helps reset their shape and airy moisture as well as odors. If pillows are placed in the sun for a few hours, the UV rays will break down bacteria and deodorize the pillow fabrics.

6. Insert a few sheets drier.

7. Utilizing essential oils

Essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, and peppermint can help with a good night's sleep and also soothe bedtime anxiety. A few drops added to a cotton ball will do the trick. Alternatively, an essential oil diffuser placed near the pillow can do the same.

8. Spot Clean Stains

For very small stains and spills, cleaning the entire item is excessive. Blot the area with a gentle fabric cleaner or a solution of mild detergent and water. From there, rinse the area with a moist cloth and let the item air dry completely before remaking the bed.

9. Keep Pets Off the Bed

Pets can bring extra dirt, hair, and odors to your bed. While it can be hard, create a comfy spot outdoors or in another area of the room. If it is crucial that your furry friend doze off right next to you, brush them frequently to manage hair and dander.

10. Use a Mattress and Pillow Protector.

Mattress and pillow protectors do not directly refresh your bedding, but they are a great tool for the bedding that is not frequently washed, helping it stay cleaner in between washes. These protectors are great, as they can be washed. Genuine dust, sweat, and allergen-repellant pillow and mattress protectors will do the job. Create a fresh environment by using and maintaining a good-quality, washable bedset.

11. Keep the Bedroom Clean

Your bedroom can also be a source of dust, which, combined with stale air, can also be a bedding’s enemy. To provide the bedroom with an air refresh, vacuum and dust light surfaces, and create airflow by leaving the windows open and closed alternately. A fresh environment directly impacts the condition of the bedding.



12. Store Bedding Properly

When not in use, bedding sets that are not in rotation should be kept out of reach. Placing sachets of dried lavender or cedar chips will ensure that the sets kept are scented and fresh until the time they are needed.

Assessing cleanliness does not always equate to steaming or washing the bedding. Following the tips given, not only will the bedding be kept fresh, but the life of the linens will also be prolonged. Keeping the bedding sanitized will avoid the feeling of filth and provide comfort. Simple methods such as letting the bedding get sun and using baking soda or essential oils are natural and will not require additional washing days.
